Hello. I found your name on a forum website about expired import permits. I hope you can help me.

I am a Canadian and I have purchased a bike down in Bariloche. A friend of mine rode it down and the import permit has expired. The bike will be registered in my name in Canada, have Canada plates, and ownership that is Canadian. I have not been able to get information on how to get a current temporary import permit. Do you have any information on how to go about this. Please help me if you can !!!!

I hope your travels are going well…..you have covered many miles !!!

    thank you
    Wally

Wally, sorry for the late response, I’m afraid your situation is complicated by the fact you bought a bike on temporary import (the fact it is expired is only part of the problem). I’m not sure it is legal to purchase an imported bike outside of the free trade zones. At least I do not have experience with these sales. You are correct in that my temp import expired while I was in Argentina but the import was for my bike that I imported. I can not advise you on your particular situation but I wish you the best. I do know that your bike can be confiscated if it is discovered your import has expired so be mindful at the checkpoints, ie avoid them! If you are making your way to Buenos Aires I can recommend someone who can give you more specific advice to your situation. Let me know if you would like me to put you in touch with him. All the best, Mark.
