Grounded in Quito

I stay at Casa Helbling in Quito where Claus and Jesse take real good care of me after the accident. Claus meets me at the ER to make sure I didn’t have any problems and even drives me back out to Cayambe to retrieve my bike. He and Jesse have a nice operaton at Casa Helbing, I can’t recommend them enough. Waiting for new gear to arrive from the states is always an exercise in patience and the long holiday weekend adds to the frustration.

I use the down time to plan a route through Peru and Bolivia. My tendency on this trip has been to take it one day at a time and not get too far ahead so looking forward to the next couple thousand miles of tracks in Peru and Bolivia is inspiring. I spend the rest of my time hanging out with new friends and exploring the city. Walking Quito’s mountain grade calles is great therapy for my banged up knee and curling 16oz Brahmas seems to bring life back into my gimp hand. Quito must be the quietest big city in South America.
